The tombstone of Private (Pte) Alexander Johnston now stands at Cantimpré Canadian Cemetery, Sailly-lez-Cambrai, France on 25 October 2011. Pte Johnston. a member of the 78th Battalion of the Winnipeg Grenadiers, died in battle in September 1918. His remains were discovered in 2008.
Of the one hundred thousand Canadians who perished in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War, over twenty-seven thousand have no known or maintainable grave.
